In the United States, there is a long list of states that allow residents to place bets on sporting events via the internet. These include New York State, Massachusetts, and Delaware. Many other countries also allow gambling to take place on the Internet. Some countries, such as India, do not allow any form of online gambling.
While gambling in the US is legal, there are still certain federal criminal statutes that are implicated by illegal Internet gambling.
